The basics

What is Tafsir?

Tafsir is the science of explaining the Quran. It draws on the Quran itself, the Sunnah, the understanding of the Companions, the Arabic language and the circumstances of revelation to clarify what Allah is telling us.

In our lessons, your teacher works through chosen surahs with reference to well-known works of Tafsir [PLACEHOLDER: e.g. Ibn Kathir, Al-Sa’di], and invites questions and reflection throughout.

  • Understand the context and background of the verses.
